This hearth broom is a contemporary piece but yet has all the makings of old features such as the sorghum base and forged handle that sports a primitive heart design. It would complement any hearth in style lending charming results or can also be placed in the kitchen or pantry too. Of course, come “All Hallows Eve” you may want to hide it from an inquisitive and absent minded witch who misplaced hers in the forest!
This broom is a great size as it is not too large and will fit almost anywhere. The heart was drop forged cut and most likely was wielded to accentuate the primitive shape lending further exciting detail. Light surface rust can be found on the heart and rod area as shown. 19th century brooms were also fashioned from sorghum and keeping to tradition this piece was constructed in the same manner. There is some minor thread loss on the back of the broom as referenced. A slight upward curve located on the bottom of the broom in the back is expected because it was propped up against the floor.
The condition is fine and this piece certainly displays well. You can add fresh pumpkins sprinkled nearby and don’t forget the witches shoes (Victorian women’s lace up boots)! Wonderful find that is not easily found! Enjoy!
Hearth broom stands 30” tall, measures 2 ¾” across the heart top and measures 7 ¼” across the bottom which is the widest point.
